When you have friends round for Sunday lunch why not instead of busting your guts making a roast just serve some cheese, meats and condiments. Seriously no fuss.. Just slap out the cheese, biccies and knife! Maybe a good old bottle of red too.
My friends did this a few sundays ago and it was perfect! I don't think they were too stressed either. A win for everyone!
Man cheese is sooooo good especially a whole melted Camembert with cranberry sauce on top - very festive!

Merry Cheesemas Everyone - Posh Fromage Edition
Hi All
Its Christmas and cheese has appeared all over the supermarket shelves. yay!
I wanted to tell you a little bit about the new Cheese phenomenon hitting the headlines this week.
LUXURY CHEESE
Recently a friend of mine went to a "posh" Michelin star restaurant in London and for dessert she chose the cheese. It was a Brie split down the middle and filled with soft cheese which was then laced with truffle oil. She showed me pictures and it looked scrumptious.
Not only that by Stylist cited Posh fromage as going up in the world this week.
So I did a bit of research and its true!
Fortnum & Mason sell a whole Brie filled with Truffle. I think we can call this luxury since it is not exactly a bargain at £58! However it is a whole Brie and would be a great as a special Christmas treat for a cheese lover.
Anyways I have been working hard recently (i always work hard obviously!) but i have a couple of weeks off so planning on doing lots more cheese research.Oh and good news... my fav cheese if you have not noticed is Godminster and is now available in Waitrose at the cheese counter. Ding Bloody Dong as i hear this week.

Truffled brie and Truffle Waterloo is also available from Harvey Nichols 5th Floor Cheese Counter.
Also available on their website is this Kingly cheese - see above - This fun ceramic jar is the second in their ‘Crown Jewels’ range which are all worth a look at, designed to house their award-winning organic Stilton in style. Created in eau de nil with regal red and gold detail, it is a fitting home for this king of cheeses.
Truffled Honey is another luxury item that has appeared on the scene. This works well with cheese be it a nice goats cheese or a Gorgonzola. It seems to be cropping up all over the place in London eateries. For example the Salt Yard on Charlotte st, Central London, see below.

The Holy Trinity - BEER - MEAT - CHEESE
Recently I went to a little underground bar called Old Toms Bar in Leadenhall market in the City area of London. (Bank is the nearest station)
From the outside it looks like something out of a movie - FUN FACT - some of Harry Potter was actually filmed there so that makes it extra cool.
It looks Christmasy, magical and there is heaps of atmosphere including cobbled streets and fairy lights and Im a sucker for this combo...so even if you dont want to go for a drink there definately have a wander through when you are on that side of the city.
Old Toms Bar serves beers/wines and cheese/meat platters. In fact its website slogan is...
BEER - CHEESE - MEAT
The Holy trinity!
Also on the menu is 3 different flavours of scotch eggs including a black pudding one! i Have tried them all and I have to say there were delcious.
Something that makes this bar extra special is the fact that you can have a Fondue Party there. So last week I had my birthday party in Old Toms Bar - A few friends big pot of fondue. It was not your traditional french fondue, infact it some good old cheddars were used.
I have to say it was very pleasing.
N.B. The fondue is also not available on the menu so you have to preorder.
****
THE CHEESES...give me a hell yeah!!!
Barbers 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar 5.50
From Maryland farm in Somerset. Barbers cheddar is matured
for a minimum of 2 years to give it the depth and intensity
of flavour. It is deliciously creamy & has both savoury
and naturally sweet notes.
Goldilocks C.P.V.O 5.50
A camembert style English cheese from the makers of Godminster
Vintage Cheddar in Somerset. Made from Jersey organic milk it
is a young mould ripened cheese with a golden yellow appearance
and creamy texture.
Isle of Wight Soft C.P.V 5.50
Made by Richard Hodgson near Sandown on the Isle of Wight. This
is a soft mould ripened pasteurised cheese made from Guernsey
milk. A beautiful colour imparts a slightly acidic flavour
which develops into a creamy camembert style cheese upon maturity.
Little Ryding S.UP.V.O 5.50
Made in North Wootton near Wells in Somerset, this is
relatively new cheese but made to an old recipe. It is a hand
crafted sheep’s cheese produced using traditional methods and
organic milk from their own flock. It has a soft white colour
and a silky texture and is a perfect example of a soft mould
ripened cheese.
Lyburn Smoked 5.50
This Wiltshire cheese is smoked over oak to give a light
& delicate flavour. It is then returned to the maturing
rooms for 10 weeks, during which the rind goes a
glorious caramel colour.
Colston Basset Shropshire Blue 5.50
A creamy blue veined cheese with a distinctive orange body
and milder flavour than blue stilton, the cheese has a deep
orange brown, natural rind.
Ill will be going back - porbably next week!

Charcuterie - A Cheeses BFF
It has been been a busy past few months and I have neglected my cheese blog - so please accept my humble apologies.
I have so many cheese stories to tell since my last post.
Somewhere that I stumbled upon recently was the superb Deli/restaurant Cannon & Cannon in the trendy Brixton Market.
I actually went to Brixton Market that evening to sample the much talked about Italian Pizzeria Franco Manca ( http://francomanca.co.uk/) which I have to say was fab! Not the best pizza in London but certainly in my top 5 (Eco on Clapham High street is still one of my favs)
Having devoured a pizza already, my friends (The LADS!) and I stumbled across Canon & Canon while wandering through the rest of the market. There was so much meat and cheese in the front window that we just had to go in. The first thing you see is a wonderful deli filled with many diffferent cheeses and lots of cured meats hanging. Then you discover there is a little more to this shop. Up the stairs at the back there is another floor where you can eat a cheese board and drink carafes of wine poured directly from barrels behind the counter. Upstairs reminded me a little of a old western movie - The owners Joe and Sean call it their cheese salon.
It had a very relaxed and cool vibe and I felt like you could sit there all night drinking and eating and not get shooed away which one of my pet hates. The customers were all 20s/30s, mixture of friends and couples out for the evening.
They also do more than just cheese they actually specialise in Cured British meats hence the name of this post.
Joe and Sean the British Charcuterie Boys @ Cannon & Cannon say..
"We have chorizo, wild boar salami, air-dried alpaca, wild venison chilli chorizo, Cornish beef and venison bresaola, cold-smoked mutton from Dorset, Welsh air-dried ham, Suffolk salami and lots more. If you love cured meat (and who doesn’t?), then you should try what is being produced here on your doorstep."
Highly recommended. I will definately be going back.

Dont get me wrong I love a good spanish chorizo - but they make a good point. Britain produces some of the best meat in the world.
The Salon upstairs is open everyday for lunch from midday, and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings for dinner. We will be running a supper club-style four course set menu every Thursday Evening. Booking info: www.salonbrixton.co.uk
Highly recommended. I will definately be going back.

GUEST POST ALERT! Cheese & Toast Off Cornwall 2012
Friday, 22 June 2012
Giving up the round and smelly stuff
I gave up cheese for 40 days and 40 nights.
It was tough (tougher than tough) and i had not trained for such an event (dangerous) but i thought I would go wild and challenge myself. A few people thought i was daft (which I am anyway) and that i wouldn't succeed (and i did-hells yeah).
PRE NO CHEESE
I asked everyone at work to bring in some cheese and crusty bread/crackers and condiments and we had a nice time socialising and trying different cheeses. One of my colleagues also gave up the cheese (not for 40 days though - ha!) and we knew what was coming the next day so perhaps we went a little overboard on the cheese..
The next day we were meant to start and .. well our hearts were not in it to be honest and there was a lot of left over cheese so we erm.. ate the left overs..
Day 1 - take 2!!!
DURING NO CHEESE
I could almost hear the rocky music as i chucked out the cheese on my first day (take 2) - the boyfriend promptly bought some more and put it back in the fridge.. not helpful)
Day 1 (take 2) - ok i can do this no cheese its fine its fine...1 day without cheese its going to be ok
Day 2 - fajitas for dinner - no cheese no cheese no cheese sprinkled on top.. arg!
Day 3 - Boyfriend reaches for a nice mature cheddar and some crackers pre dinner... look the other way..he wafts the cheese around my face. RAGE!
You get the picture...
It turns out that although i knew that I ate a lot of cheese daily it didn't really realise how addicted i had become.. seriously! that stuff is like a drug.
By the last week i had got used to not having the good stuff and it was not so hard. In fact, i thought i could keep going not eating it. I know..I know its a crazy thought.
POST NO CHEESE
Ill tell you what the first day back on the cheese was glorious. I spent the evening at Androuet - a superb little place that doubles up as a cosy candle lit restaurant and a cheese shop in Spitalfields market. I stuffed my face with their classic hot gooey creamy fondue. It was epic and i then wondered why had i given it up at all!?
I would recommend giving up something you adore for 40 days it has made me appreciate cheese even more. Not that you or I thought that was possible!
I perhaps saviour it a little more and deal in quality rather than quantity. (shes says having been to Gordon's wine bar the night previous night and basically gorged on 6 massive chunks of cheese... ! ha)
I have a lot more cheese times to share with you.. more posts coming soon.

Recipe for Parmesan Biscuits
(they are really easy to make but look impressive)
Ingredients
- pinch salt
- pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 heaped tsp mustard powder
- 50g/1¾ oz finely grated mature cheddar
Preparation method
- Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
- Place the butter and flour into the bowl of a food processor with the salt, cayenne, mustard powder and cheeses. Process together to begin with, and then finely pulse the mixture in short spurts as you notice the mixture coming together - it will eventually bind without the need for egg or water. Wrap in cling film and leave to chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
- Lightly flour a work surface and gently roll out the pastry to about the thickness of two pound coins. Cut out the biscuits to the size and shape you wish - anything between 3cm/1¼in and 5cm/2in, depending on the occasion. Lay them out on a greased baking tray about 2cm/¾in apart - it may take two lots of baking to use up the entire mixture.
- Carefully brush the surface of each biscuit with the egg and sprinkle over a little finely grated parmesan. Bake for 10 minutes, or until they are a gorgeous golden-brown colour; the superb smell will also inform you that they are ready.
- Carefully lift the biscuits off the tray using a palette knife and place on a rack to cool. Although the biscuits will keep well in a sealed container for a few days, I have never known this to happen!
If you are still floundering around as what to buy your other half for Valentines, go with the Godminster cheese pack, hamper or whatever you fancy!
If you want to put in a bit more effort, bake some parmesan biscuits - they are delicious! and seriously cheesy.
